Transfer Gear Oil Level - Check
2. Remove the oil
lter with a strap type wrench.
Discard the used oil lter properly.
Refer to Opera
tion and Maintenance Manual, “Oil
Filter - Inspect”.
3. Clean the oil
lter base.
4. Apply a thin coat of oil to the seal of the new oil
lter.
5. Install the new oil lter by hand. When the seal
contacts th
eoillter base, turn the oil lter by 270°
more. This will tighten the oil lter sufciently.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that uids are contained
during performance of inspection, maintenance, test-
ing, adj
usting and repair of the product. Be prepared to
collect the uid with suitable containers before open-
ing any compartment or disassembling any compo-
nent co
ntaining uids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, “Caterpillar
Dealer
Service Tool Catalog” for tools and supplies
suitable to collect and contain uids on Caterpillar
products.
Dispose of all uids according to local regulations and
mandates.
Chec
k the oil level before the engine is started.
1. Park the machine on a level surface. Engage the
park
ing brake and lower the truck body or OEM
attachment.
2. Rai
se the hood. Refer to Operation and
Maintenance Manual, “Hood Control”.

3. Wipe oil ller cap (1) and oil ller tube (2).
Note: The oil level dipstick is integral with the oil ller
capforthetransfergear.Oilller tube (2) for the
transfer gear is located on the left side of the engine
compartment.
4. Turn the handle on the oil level dipstick in order to
remove the dipstick. Remove the o il level dipstick.
5. Clean the dipstick by wiping.
6. Install the dipstick fully.
7. Remove the dipstick.

Note: The oil level dipstick is marked: “MIN COLD”
(3) , “MIN HOT” (4), and “MAX HOT” (5).
8. Check the oil on the dipstick.
Note: The engine can be started if the oil is above
the mark “MIN COLD”(3).
9. If necessary, add oil through ller tube (2) until
the level is at the “MIN COLD” mark. Refer to
Operation and Maintenance Manual, “Lubricant
Viscosities”.
